bessa is not connected to taximeters. The fare therefore reaches the Sales Point in one of two ways: the driver takes over the amount from the taximeter, or the Sales Point calculates the price from kilometres or minutes itself. Add fixed fees such as pick-up or waiting time, surcharges and tips. This guide shows how to set this up.
Please check with your trade association or your tax advisor which rules for fares, taximeters and receipts apply in your country and municipality. This guide describes the setup in bessa.
Way A: enter the fare freely
For fares by taximeter, create an article "Ride" with Free price enabled. When booking, the Sales Point asks for the price, and the driver types in the amount from the taximeter. It's even quicker via the numpad: type the amount, e.g. 23.40, then tap "Ride". See Articles and Create an order.
Protection against typing errors: From bessa Kassa version 6.2.0, enter a Largest amount (gross) on the "Ride" article in the Configuration tab, e.g. 500.00. If the driver forgets the decimal point and types 2340 instead of 23.40, the Sales Point does not book but shows an error on the price field. See Sign, Value Ranges and Step Size.
This way also fits flat-rate rides at an agreed price. Frequent flat rates such as "Airport" are better created as separate articles with a fixed price.
Way B: price from kilometres or minutes
If you charge by distance or time, the Sales Point sets the price itself:
-
Create an article "Ride km" with the price per kilometre as its price.
-
Set the Quantity type to Fractional and enter "km" as Unit of measure.
-
For waiting time or hourly hire, create an article "Waiting time" the same way with the price per minute and the unit "min".
When booking, the Sales Point asks for the quantity; the driver enters the kilometres driven, e.g. 12.5, or types them into the numpad beforehand. The receipt shows "12.5 km" with the price per kilometre. See Articles.
Fixed fees and surcharges
Attach base fee, pick-up fee, luggage or night surcharge to the ride articles via an article option:
-
Name: Surcharges
-
Selection: Optional selection
-
Price: Normal price
-
Article selection: one article per fee, e.g. "Pick-up €4.00", "Luggage €2.00", "Night surcharge €3.00"
A fee that applies to every ride, e.g. the base fee, gets its own option with Min 1, Max 1 and Preselection; the Sales Point then books it without asking. Article options don't support percentage surcharges; model them as a fixed amount.
Tips
If the passenger rounds up, record the difference as a tip, at the Sales Point via the 3-dot menu → Set tip or directly on the card terminal if it supports tip prompts. Tips are not turnover and appear in the driver's Users report, see Tips.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Sales Point take over the fare from the taximeter? No, there is no taximeter connection. The driver takes over the amount via free price.
Can I apply a night tariff automatically? For prices per kilometre and minute, with a time-controlled pricing level, e.g. "Night" from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM with its own price per kilometre, see Set up pricing levels for the Sales Point. Time ranges past midnight require bessa Kassa 6.0.7 or later.
