Create an Order

An order is the core posting operation on a Sales Point: articles are placed in the cart and then paid for or parked. This page explains how to post articles into the cart, adjust quantities, and reset the order.

Before you can post, the Sales Point must be signed in, fiscalised, and there must be an active day.

Open the ordering screen

Tap Order in the main menu. The ordering screen has two tabs:

  • Articles shows the ordering surface configured in the bessa Manager with every article available on this Sales Point.

  • Cart shows the currently selected articles with quantities and unit prices.

Add articles

Tap an article on the ordering surface. The article appears in the cart immediately. Tapping the same article again increases its quantity.

Ordering surfaces can be nested. Tap a sub-surface (e.g. "Drinks") to display its articles and use the assigned "Back" tile to return to the parent surface.

Adjust the quantity

The + and buttons at the edges of each cart line increase or decrease the quantity by 1.

Lowering the quantity to 0 removes the article from the cart automatically.

Adjust quantity freely with long-press

For entries that go beyond stepwise +/−, a dedicated adjust dialog is available: long-press (hold for at least half a second) on the cart line. The Adjust dialog opens and allows free quantity entry — multi-digit, decimal, or negative with a minus prefix.

Typical use cases:

  • Fixing a mis-tap — you tapped an article twelve times instead of once; enter 1 instead of pressing twelve times.

  • Half portions — enter 0.5 directly, without creating a duplicate article in the Manager.

  • Large quantities — type 12 instead of tapping the article twelve times.

  • Product returns — entering -1 (or higher with a minus prefix) posts the article as a return. Full workflows are documented under Process a Return.

The same dialog also lets you adjust the unit price and the free-text note, depending on the article's configuration.

Free text and manual price entry

Articles can be configured in the bessa Manager so that an input dialog appears on posting:

  • Free text — you add a free-form note (e.g. "no ice", "extra spicy"). The text is printed on the order chit and the invoice.

  • Manual price — you enter the unit price when posting (e.g. for deposit articles or daily specials without a fixed price).

This is configured in the bessa Manager under Articles. There is nothing to set on the Sales Point itself.

Discard the entire order

To clear the order, tap the trash icon in the top right of the header bar.
