Quick Connect by QR Code

With Quick Connect you sign a device in by scanning a QR code on the sign-in screen — no username, no password. The QR code is generated either by the Main Sales Point for one of its Sub-Terminals, or by the bessa Manager for any Sales Point.

That makes commissioning and device swaps considerably faster: whoever sets up a device no longer needs the Sales Point user's credentials — only access to the Main Sales Point or to the bessa Manager.

Quick Connect requires bessa Kassa 6.0 or newer — on the device being signed in and, for the Main Sales Point route, on the Main Sales Point as well. Older versions do not show the action.

The two routes at a glance

QR code from the Main Sales Point

QR code from the bessa Manager

Generated in

Settings > Sub-Terminals on the Main Sales Point

Sales Point list or the Control tab of the Sales Point

Suitable for

a Sub-Terminal of that same Main Sales Point

any Sales Point — Main Sales Point or Sub-Terminal

User signed in

the same user who is signed in on the Main Sales Point

the default user of the target Sales Point (fallback: the Main Sales Point's default user)

Network discovery

not needed — the code carries the Main Sales Point's current address

required: the Sub-Terminal locates the Main Sales Point itself

Target must be free

yes — unbound Sub-Terminals only

no — on an already bound Sales Point the code switches the user

When building out a location, the Main Sales Point route is the fastest: sign the Main Sales Point in once, either with a Manager QR code or the classic way with username and password, then attach every Sub-Terminal by QR code directly from the Main Sales Point.

Requirements

  • bessa Kassa 6.0 or newer on every device involved.

  • An internet connection on the device being signed in. Quick Connect verifies the sign-in and the Sales Point assignment through the bessa cloud; it does not work purely locally.

  • A camera or an attached barcode scanner on the device being signed in.

  • Automatic time synchronisation and the same time zone on both devices — the QR code is only valid briefly and is rejected when the clocks differ significantly.

  • For Sub-Terminals: the Main Sales Point is already signed in on a device and reachable on the local network.

  • For the Manager route: the target Sales Point has an active default user assigned to it — see Manage Sales Point Users.

Sign a Sub-Terminal in from the Main Sales Point

On the Main Sales Point: show the QR code

  1. On the Main Sales Point, open Settings > Sub-Terminals.

  2. Find the row of the Sub-Terminal you want to sign in.

  3. Tap the QR code icon in that row. The Quick Connect dialog opens and shows the QR code together with the "Valid for …" countdown.

The QR code icon appears only for Sub-Terminals that are not yet bound to a device. If the icon is missing, the Sub-Terminal is already signed in on another device. Sign it out there, or disconnect the hardware in the Manager — see Remote Sales Point Control.

The code expires after 90 seconds and is then replaced automatically by a new one — so you do not have to reopen the dialog once the countdown has run out. As soon as the Sub-Terminal has connected, the dialog closes by itself.

On the Sub-Terminal: scan the QR code

  1. Start the bessa Kassa app on the Sub-Terminal. The sign-in screen appears.

  2. Below the sign-in button, tap Sign in with QR code.

  3. Point the camera at the QR code shown on the Main Sales Point.

The Sub-Terminal takes over the sign-in and the Sales Point assignment, connects to the Main Sales Point and then pulls the master data. There is no Sales Point to pick — the QR code already determines which Sub-Terminal is bound.

If a barcode scanner is attached to the device (USB or Bluetooth in keyboard mode), you can scan the QR code straight from the sign-in screen without tapping Sign in with QR code first.

Because the code carries the Main Sales Point's current address, no network discovery is needed on that first connection. The recommendation to give the Main Sales Point a fixed IP address and store it in the Manager still applies to day-to-day operation — see Wireless Ordering on Sub-Terminals.

Sign a Sales Point in from the bessa Manager

The bessa Manager generates a QR code for any Sales Point — including a Main Sales Point that is not yet signed in on any device. This is the route for commissioning a location that has no running Sales Point yet.

In the Manager: generate the QR code

Both entry points are the same QR code icon — an unlabelled button whose tooltip reads Quick Connect when you hover over it:

  • Sales Point listLocation Management > Sales Points: click the QR code icon in the row of the Sales Point you want.

  • Sales Point detail view — open the Sales Point and switch to the Control tab. The QR code icon sits there alongside the other device and sign-in functions.

The code is valid for 90 seconds and is refreshed as long as the view stays open.

The device is not signed in as your Manager user, but as the default user of the target Sales Point. If a Sub-Terminal has no default user of its own, the Main Sales Point's default user is used. Check in advance that this default user holds the permissions required to operate that Sales Point — see Manage Sales Point Users.

On the device: scan the QR code

The procedure is identical to the Main Sales Point route: tap Sign in with QR code on the sign-in screen and scan the code shown in the Manager.

For a Sub-Terminal, a Manager code contains no network address of the Main Sales Point. The Sub-Terminal therefore locates the Main Sales Point itself on the local network, or uses the IP address stored in the Manager.

Switch the user on a Sales Point that is already signed in

A Manager QR code also works on a Sales Point that is already bound to a device. When that device scans the code, the Sales Point stays on the same hardware — but the default user from the code is signed in. This is how you change the Sales Point user without knowing their password.

Moving a Sales Point to new hardware takes more than the QR code: sign the Sales Point out on the old device first, or disconnect the hardware in the Manager. Only then can a new device sign in to that Sales Point — Quick Connect included.

Validity and security

Quick Connect never transmits a password. The QR code carries an encrypted, short-lived sign-in token:

  • Valid for 90 seconds. After that the device rejects the code, and whoever is showing it generates a new one automatically.

  • Single activation. A code generated in the bessa Manager must be used for the first time inside its time window. After that it is spent on the server side — a photographed or filmed code cannot be redeemed later.

  • Encrypted content. The code is not human-readable and can only be used by the bessa Kassa app. A foreign or modified QR code is rejected.

  • Bound to its target. A code generated by a Main Sales Point binds exclusively the Sub-Terminal named in it, and only for that Main Sales Point. If the target does not match, the sign-in fails — a different Sales Point is never signed in "instead".

  • Auditable. Every code generated in the bessa Manager is recorded in the Sales Point's log.

  • Not during a support session. While bessa Support temporarily accesses the Manager on behalf of your account, no Quick Connect code can be generated.

Treat a displayed QR code like a password: do not show it in the guest area, do not pass screenshots around, and do not leave the dialog open unattended. Within its 90 seconds, any device with a camera can use the code.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the Sales Point user's password? No. That is exactly the point of Quick Connect — the code already carries a valid sign-in.

Which user is active after Quick Connect? With a code from the Main Sales Point, the user who is signed in on the Main Sales Point. With a code from the bessa Manager, the default user of the target Sales Point (fallback: the Main Sales Point's default user) — not your Manager user.

Do both devices have to be on the same network to scan the code? Not for scanning — the code is transferred optically. For the subsequent operation of a Sub-Terminal, the local connection to the Main Sales Point is mandatory.

Does Quick Connect work without an internet connection? No. The sign-in and the Sales Point assignment are verified through the bessa cloud. Without an internet connection on the device being signed in, Quick Connect fails.

Can I sign several Sub-Terminals in with the same code? No. Each code applies to exactly one target Sales Point. Generate a separate code for every Sub-Terminal.

Can I reuse the same QR code later? No. After 90 seconds it has expired, and Manager codes are additionally spent after their first use.

Troubleshooting

Message / symptom

Cause

Solution

The code is rejected even though it is being displayed right now

The time or time zone of one of the devices deviates significantly

Set automatic time synchronisation and the same time zone on both devices

The code has expired

More than 90 seconds have passed

Wait for the code to refresh automatically, or reopen the dialog

The code is not recognised or is reported as invalid

Foreign QR code, code from a different bessa account, or an app version older than 6.0

Check and update the version; generate the code in the right place

The Sub-Terminal is not available for the scanned Main Sales Point

The Sub-Terminal belongs to a different Main Sales Point, is inactive, or is already bound to a device

Check the assignment and licence status in the Manager; sign a bound Sub-Terminal out first or disconnect its hardware

The QR code icon is missing from the row on the Main Sales Point

The Sub-Terminal is already bound to a device

Sign out on the other device, or disconnect the hardware in the Manager

The Manager refuses the code because the Main Sales Point is not yet bound to a device

A Sub-Terminal without an operational Main Sales Point would have no communication partner

Sign the Main Sales Point in first, then generate the code for the Sub-Terminal

The Manager refuses the code because no default user is configured

Neither the target Sales Point nor the Main Sales Point has a default user

Set a default user under Sales Points > Users, see

Manage Sales Point Users

After a successful sign-in the Sub-Terminal cannot find the Main Sales Point

Manager codes contain no address of the Main Sales Point

Store the Main Sales Point's fixed IP address in the Manager and check the network, see

Wireless Ordering on Sub-Terminals
