All bessa products use the same proprietary dispenser driver for Android. It unifies multiple dispenser protocols and allows uniform booking regardless of the dispenser system.
This section describes the supported protocols and the parameters a dispenser requires per protocol. The parameters are the same across all bessa products — where they are entered depends on the product. For the Sales Point, see Dispenser Settings.

E protocol (P160 / WTS from version 1.103 of 2021-05-16 onwards) |
Serial (USB) |
Serial parameters as specified by the dispenser technician |
Widely used across manufacturers — dispenser systems, coffee machines and beverage dispensers |
|
VMPS (version 5.16 of 2015-07-03) |
Serial (USB) or network |
UDP, default port 28001 |
Gruber dispenser systems and compatible units |
|
Z1U-LAN BUÖ (API version 1.0.2) |
Network |
TCP 443 (HTTPS, no ICMP/PING support) |
Brau Union Z1U dispenser systems |
The connection type determines which protocols are possible:

Digit settings and checksum
Only the E protocol transmits its values as fixed-width numbers whose width depends on the individual unit — there, field widths and the checksum have to be configured. VMPS defines its field widths in the specification and always verifies with a checksum, and Z1U transmits all payload data as JSON over HTTPS. Neither of these two protocols needs such input.
