To connect a dispenser system to this Sales Point, open Menu → Settings → Devices & Connections → Dispensers. The process has two stages: first you create a dispenser profile with articles, users and tables in the bessa Manager, then you connect the physical dispenser to that profile on the Sales Point.
Prerequisite: a dispenser profile in the bessa Manager
The list only shows dispenser profiles that exist in the bessa Manager under Dispensers. That is where the operating mode, article PLUs, user numbers and table numbers are defined. If the list is empty, either the profile or the corresponding licence is missing — new dispenser profiles are created by Support.
Each entry shows its state on this Sales Point:
-
Not setup yet — the profile exists, but no dispenser is connected on this device.
-
Setup done — a connection exists and has been tested.
Connecting a dispenser
-
Open Menu → Settings → Devices & Connections → Dispensers.
-
Tap the dispenser profile you want to configure.
-
Select the Connection type:
Serial (USB)orNetwork. -
Select the Protocol. Only protocols supported by the selected connection type are offered — the E and VMPS protocols for
Serial (USB), the Z1U and VMPS protocols forNetwork. When you change the connection type, the Sales Point adjusts the selection automatically. -
Enter the parameters of the selected protocol. Which values a dispenser needs is described per protocol under Dispenser Systems.
-
Tap Test & Save.
Test & Save establishes a real connection to the dispenser before saving. If the test fails, the setting is not applied — the Sales Point never stores a configuration that is known not to work.
Which fields appear when
The input form only shows the fields required for the selected combination of connection type and protocol.

For Serial (USB), select the connected USB-to-serial adapter under Device. If no entry appears, refresh the list using the refresh icon; on the first connection, Android additionally asks for the permission for the adapter.
The dispenser connection applies per device. If the same dispenser is also needed on another Sales Point or a sub-terminal, it has to be set up there as well. The dispenser profile in the bessa Manager is not duplicated — only the connection is.
Room-specific and floor-specific connections
Below the dispenser list you will find the entries Room-specific and Floor-specific. Use them to store a different connection for an individual room or floor — for example when every floor has its own dispenser unit belonging to the same dispenser profile.
-
An area-specific setting overrides the general connection for all orders from that area.
-
If nothing is stored for the area, the general connection applies automatically.
-
In the detail view of an area-specific connection, Room-specific or Floor-specific is shown below the title, so it stays clear which connection you are editing.
The rooms and floors themselves come from the Areas & Order Groups in the bessa Manager.
Additional actions
For dispensers that are already set up, the menu in the top right of the detail view offers two actions:
-
Reset credit — clears all open credits from the dispenser's memory. Useful after test bookings, after replacing a device, or when the Sales Point and the dispenser have drifted apart. On the Brau Union Z1U, this action also triggers the pairing with the dispenser.
-
Delete — removes the connection from this device. The dispenser profile and its article, user and table assignments in the bessa Manager remain unchanged.
FAQ
Why is the dispenser list empty? No dispenser profile exists in the bessa Manager, or the dispenser licence is missing. Support can clarify both.
Where do I get the parameters for my protocol? From the dispenser technician or from the configuration of the dispenser itself. Which fields each protocol needs is documented under Dispenser Systems.
Do I have to set it up again after an update? No. The connection is stored on the device. Only replacing the device or using Delete removes it.
Troubleshooting
-
The dispenser profile is missing from the list — it does not exist in the bessa Manager, or the licence is missing.
-
No device can be selected for a serial connection — the USB adapter was not detected or the Android permission was not granted. Reconnect the adapter and refresh the list.
-
Test & Save fails — the parameters do not match the dispenser. The protocol-specific causes are described under Dispenser Systems.
-
Orders from one room end up on the wrong dispenser — a different area-specific connection is stored for that room, or it is missing and the general connection applies.
