For the Sales Point to take payments on a SumUp card terminal, you sign the Sales Point in to your SumUp account once and pair the terminal via Bluetooth. You start both on the Sales Point with Connect SumUp; Disconnect SumUp removes the connection again.
Sign-in and terminal pairing do not run in bessa POS itself but in SumUp's own sign-in and terminal screens. SumUp designs and changes those screens — for questions about individual steps in them, the SumUp Support Centre helps.
Requirements
-
In bessa Manager, SumUp is set as the card terminal of this Sales Point — see Configure the Sales Point card terminal. SumUp needs no further parameters in the Manager.
-
You have an active SumUp account and know its credentials (email address and password).
-
The device is connected to the internet and Bluetooth is switched on.
-
A web browser is installed on the device — the SumUp sign-in opens in it.
-
The terminal (Solo or Solo Lite) is charged and switched on.
If no SumUp terminal is set for the Sales Point, the entry does not appear in Settings.
Connect SumUp
-
Open Menu → Settings → Devices & Connections → Connect SumUp.
-
SumUp's sign-in page opens in the browser. Sign in with your SumUp account and confirm that bessa POS may access the account.
-
You then return to the Sales Point automatically, and SumUp's terminal view opens.
-
Pair your terminal there. The view guides you through the search and the confirmation on the terminal — details in SumUp's help for the Solo or the Solo Lite.
-
Close the terminal view. The entry now reads Disconnect SumUp — the Sales Point is connected.
The Sales Point remembers the sign-in. If the session at SumUp expires, it signs in again in the background on the next payment; you do not have to enter the credentials for every payment.
Connect SumUp before the first customer arrives and make a test payment. If the Sales Point runs unattended (self-service), this is mandatory: without a stored sign-in, SumUp's sign-in would otherwise appear in front of the guest at payment.
Disconnect SumUp
-
Open Menu → Settings → Devices & Connections → Disconnect SumUp.
-
The Sales Point signs out of your SumUp account immediately and discards the stored sign-in. There is no confirmation prompt.
The entry then reads Connect SumUp again. The next card payment via SumUp asks for a new sign-in.
Disconnect SumUp, for example, when you want to use a different SumUp account on this Sales Point, hand the device on, or rebuild the sign-in from scratch after a fault.
FAQ
Where do I enter the SumUp username and password? Not in bessa Manager and not in any bessa form, but only on SumUp's sign-in page that opens with Connect SumUp. bessa POS never sees your password.
I changed my SumUp password. Do I need to do anything? If the Sales Point asks for a new sign-in at payment, disconnect SumUp and connect it again.
How do I swap the terminal? SumUp's terminal view opens after every Connect SumUp. Disconnect SumUp, connect it again and pair the new terminal on the way.
Troubleshooting
Tapping "Connect SumUp" reports that no web browser is available. Install or enable a web browser on the device (for example Chrome) and try again.
After signing in the Sales Point returns, but the entry still reads "Connect SumUp". The sign-in was cancelled or not confirmed. Start Connect SumUp again and complete the sign-in including the access confirmation.
The terminal is not found or loses the connection. Check the battery, Bluetooth and the distance to the device. SumUp describes the further steps under Restore my Bluetooth connection. If that does not help, disconnect SumUp on the Sales Point and connect it again.
A payment was interrupted and its status is unclear. See Unknown payment status.
