Info
This page describes the settings for card terminals in bessa POS. For detailed information about individual terminal types and their setup, please refer to the Card Payment Terminals page.
A card terminal enables electronic acceptance of card payments directly at your point of sale. After correct configuration, a corresponding payment method is automatically created, allowing your customers to pay cashlessly.
Configure Card Terminal
Select Terminal Type
First, select the appropriate terminal type from the list. Available options depend on your contract and hardware.
Tip
Detailed information about each terminal type, supported features, and providers can be found on the Card Payment Terminals page.
Terminal-Specific Settings
Depending on the selected terminal type, you need to configure additional parameters:
Network Terminals
Warning
For network terminals, configuring a fixed IP address is mandatory. Ensure that:
-
The card terminal receives a static IP address in the local network
-
The IP address is correctly entered in the terminal settings
-
Card terminal and POS system are on the same local network
-
No firewall or network settings block communication between POS and terminal
Enter the terminal's IP address in the corresponding field.
Additional Configuration Parameters
Depending on the terminal type, further settings may be required, such as:
-
Terminal ID
-
Connection number
-
Port number
-
Authentication credentials
Request Tip
For supported terminal types, you can activate the Request tip option. This feature lets your customers add the tip amount directly on the card terminal instead of entering it on the Sales Point.
You find the option in the Sales Point detail view on the Card terminal tab, alongside the other terminal-specific settings. The setting applies per Sales Point: you activate it for the card terminal of that Sales Point — other Sales Points and other terminal types are unaffected.
Available with the following terminal types:
-
Network terminals (ZVT)
-
Global Payments / GPTom
-
POSit 2 (Hobex SoftPOS) – from bessa Kassa version 6.1.0
The option is not available with the older POSit integration (terminal type POSit) or with the remaining SoftPOS types. There, continue to record the tip on the Sales Point.
When the option is active, the terminal asks for the tip using its own settings. The suggested amounts, percentages, and upper limits therefore come from the terminal or the terminal provider — bessa Kassa does not manage them and offers no additional fields for them. The terminal reports the entered tip back to the Sales Point, where it is assigned to the card payment.
Requirements for the tip function:
-
The selected terminal type must support tip requests
-
The physical card terminal or the SoftPOS app must technically support the function
-
Tipping must be enabled by the terminal provider for your business and activated on the terminal itself
If the provider has not enabled the function, the option in bessa Kassa has no effect: the terminal silently skips the tip request, but the payment still goes through normally. No error message appears. Clarify the activation with your terminal provider before you enable the option — for the Hobex SoftPOS POSit 2, see Hobex.
Automatic Payment Method Creation
After saving the terminal settings, a corresponding payment method for card payments is automatically created.
Important: The payment method is only displayed on the POS if:
-
All required terminal settings are completely filled in
-
The configuration has been successfully saved
-
A matching payment method exists
Tip
If card payment doesn't appear on your POS, check the completeness of your terminal settings and ensure all mandatory fields are filled in.
