The cash drawer is not connected to the device directly but to the receipt printer. It hangs on the printer's drawer connector and opens through a short electrical pulse the printer emits on command. Without a connected receipt printer there is therefore no electrical drawer opening.
Connection
-
The drawer cable goes into the drawer socket of the receipt printer. It looks like a telephone socket and is usually labelled DK, Drawer or Cash Drawer.
-
The drawer needs no power supply of its own – the opening pulse comes from the printer.
-
On devices with a built-in printer (e.g. Sunmi, iMin) the socket is present on the device itself or missing entirely, depending on the model. Check this on your particular model.
Cash drawer or buzzer – not both at once. The receipt printer has only one connector for this and can serve only one of the two. See Buzzer on the Receipt Printer.
Troubleshooting
The drawer does not open. Check the hardware first: is the cable in the drawer socket rather than in a network or telephone socket? Is a buzzer active on that printer, occupying the connector? If both are in order, the assignment in the product is usually missing – see below.
The drawer used to open and stopped after a buzzer was connected. That is expected – the connector can serve only one of the two.
Assigning the cash drawer
Which printer the drawer is assigned to depends on the bessa product in use. In bessa Kassa this is done through the Cash Drawer printer role – see Printer Settings.
