Retain regular customers

A regular customer should be recognised at the Sales Point, get their terms automatically and have a reason to come back. bessa offers four building blocks for this: customers with stored terms, discount groups, vouchers and digital bonus cards. This guide shows which building block fits which purpose and how to combine them.

Which building block for what?

Create and recognise customers

With the customer management module you create customers at the Sales Point or in the bessa Manager: name, company, VAT ID, contact details, addresses and a comment field for internal notes. When taking payment, link the receipt via the options menu with Link customer. The customer data then appears on the invoice, and stored terms apply automatically.

Linking is quicker with a customer card: when the Sales Point scans a stored card number, it assigns the customer to the receipt. Details in Customers.

In the customer details, the Sales Point shows the customer's turnover in the current and the previous year. This helps your team recognise good regulars even if they don't know them personally.

Store terms: discount group or pricing level

Both work automatically as soon as the customer is linked to the receipt:

  • Discount group: deducts a reduction from the price, as a percentage or a fixed amount. The discount appears separately on the invoice. You maintain the amount once in the group, and it applies to all assigned customers, see Discount groups.

  • Pricing level: replaces the price of individual articles, e.g. reseller prices for business customers. The price appears on the invoice like a regular price, see Pricing levels.

For a simple regulars' discount, use the discount group. The pricing level is worth it when individual articles should become cheaper by different amounts.

Discount groups apply to customers and function keys, not to individual articles. For a time-limited clearance of certain articles, e.g. a sale, use a pricing level with a validity period, see Set up pricing levels for the Sales Point.

Vouchers

With local vouchers (the Sales Point's Voucher Management module) you sell value vouchers at the Sales Point. The voucher gets a code with a barcode, the remaining balance is kept after a partial redemption, and it is valid in all branches. If customers should also buy and redeem vouchers in the web shop or in the app, or vouchers should only be valid at individual locations, use online vouchers. See Sell a voucher and Redeem a voucher.

Vouchers you did not issue yourself, such as municipal or works council vouchers, are taken through a separate payment method, see Accept third-party vouchers and credits.

Bonus cards

Digital bonus cards run in the bessa WhiteLabel app on your customers' smartphones: as a stamp card ("10 coffees, 1 free"), as a points card or as an unlock card for memberships. They are redeemed at the Sales Point by scanning the code from the app. Setup in Customer loyalty.

Frequently asked questions

Can a customer have a pricing level and a discount group at the same time? Yes. The pricing level price applies first, and the group discount is deducted from it.

Do I need customer management at the Sales Point for bonus cards? No. Bonus cards are tied to the customer's app account, not to a customer in the Sales Point.

What do I need to observe on data protection when creating customers? Obtain the customer's consent. With the Voucher Management module, the Sales Point automatically prints a consent form when a customer is created. Notes in Customers and Data protection.
