A discount group is a reusable discount that you define once, centrally, and then assign to many customers. When the discount rate changes, you maintain it in one place instead of editing every customer individually.
Typical use cases: Regulars 10%, Staff 20%, Club members 5% or Partner businesses 15%.
Discount groups are created in the bessa Manager. At the Sales Point they are read-only — a discount group can be selected there, but not created or changed. Applying them at the Sales Point requires bessa Kassa 6.1 or newer; older versions do not show the selection field and keep using the customer's standard discount.
Overview
You find discount groups in the bessa Manager under Articles > Discount groups. The menu entry appears with the Manage articles permission — see User Roles and Permissions Management.
The overview lists every discount group in a table:
-
Name – Name of the discount group
-
Discount – The stored discount, either as a percentage (e.g. "10 %") or as an amount (e.g. "€5.00")
-
Delete – Deletes the discount group (bin icon)
-
Edit – Opens the edit dialog (pencil icon)
Clicking a row also opens the edit dialog. As long as no discount group exists, the page shows "No discount groups available".
Create a discount group
-
Click + New discount group at the top left.
-
Enter a Name (required). Pick a name that means something to your staff — it appears at the Sales Point in the customer form and in the customer details.
-
Set exactly one of the two discount types:
-
Absolute discount – A fixed amount in your currency, e.g.
5for a €5.00 reduction. -
Relative discount (%) – A percentage between 0 and 100, e.g.
20for 20%.
-
-
Click Save.
Absolute and relative discount are mutually exclusive. If both fields are filled, the Save button stays disabled. Fill in only the field for the discount type you want and leave the other one empty or at 0.
In practice, percentage discount groups are usually the better choice: a relative discount scales with the bill and works on any order. An absolute discount has a very strong effect on small bills and hardly any on large ones.
Edit a discount group
Click the pencil icon or the row itself. The dialog is identical to the creation dialog and shows the stored values. Changes affect all customers assigned to that group — for future orders. Invoices already closed remain unchanged.
To switch the discount type, set the previous field to 0 (or clear it) and fill in the other one.
Delete a discount group
Click the bin icon in the row.
Deleting removes the assignment from all customers in that group. The customers themselves are kept, but afterwards they have no discount — their standard discount is 0% and has to be set again if needed. Check which customers are affected before deleting.
Assign a discount group to a customer
-
In the bessa Manager, open Manage > Customers and the customer in question (or create a new one).
-
Select the matching group in the Discount group field. The No discount group option clears an existing assignment.
-
Save the customer.
As soon as a discount group is selected, the Standard discount (%) field is set to 0 and locked — the discount rate then comes exclusively from the group. Clear the assignment with No discount group and the field becomes editable again.
You can also make the assignment directly at the Sales Point — see Customers on the Sales Point. How the discount takes effect while ordering and taking payment is described in Apply Discounts.
Put a discount group on a function key
Discount groups can also be applied without linking a customer: in Display, create a tile of type Function with the type Discount (whole bill) or Item Discount (single line) and select the discount group there. Tapping the tile applies the group's discount — handy for recurring reductions such as staff discount, without your staff having to type in percentages.
This route also requires bessa Kassa 6.1 or newer. On older versions a tile that applies a discount group instead of a fixed value has no effect.
