Auto Mode for Order Screens

As long as you have not set up an order screen of your own, the bessa Sales Point builds the order screen itself from your article groups: one tile per article group, holding its articles. This lets you take orders from day one without creating any tiles. You set the order of the article groups in the bessa Manager, and Customize switches you to your own order screens at any time.

When is auto mode active?

Auto mode is active as long as no order screen holds a tile. There is no setting for it – the mode follows solely from whether tiles exist:

  • New businesses start in auto mode.

  • Existing businesses whose order screen – e.g. "Start" – is empty also switch to auto mode. An empty order screen counts as none.

  • As soon as a single tile is on an order screen, the Sales Point shows only your own order screens.

  • If the last tile is deleted, the Sales Point switches back to auto mode, see Deleting the last order screen.

The Sales Point picks up a switch with the next synchronization and jumps to the start page.

Auto mode requires bessa Kassa version 6.2 or later, the article group order from the bessa Manager version 6.3 or later. Older versions show an empty screen without tiles; version 6.2 sorts the article groups alphabetically.

What auto mode looks like on the Sales Point

Start page: One tile per article group, in the order set in the bessa Manager (see Changing the order of article groups). Article groups without an orderable article do not appear.

Article group: Tapping an article group opens its articles, sorted alphabetically. The tile in the top left leads back to the start page. The Sales Point shows at most 500 articles per article group.

The tiles use the standard colors of the Sales Point. Deactivated articles and quantity locks behave as they do on a configured tile.

What auto mode does not offer

  • Function tiles such as Discount, Open cash drawer or Payment

  • Custom colors, images and positions of individual tiles

  • Separate layouts per device

If you need any of these, switch to your own order screens with Customize.

The self-service kiosk does not use auto mode. Without tiles it stays in scan mode as before.

Auto mode in the bessa Manager

In auto mode, the bessa Manager shows a preview of the order screen under Displays instead of an empty list – exactly as the Sales Point shows it: the start page and the article groups. The preview cannot be edited.

In auto mode, all hints about unplaced articles are also gone – counters, banners, Place all, the dialog after the import and the hint in the article detail. On the Sales Point, every article is visible anyway.

Changing the order of article groups

The order of the tiles on the start page follows the list of article groups in the bessa Manager:

  1. Open Article Groups in the bessa Manager.

  2. Drag an article group by the drag handle to the left of its name, up or down.

  3. The new order is saved automatically and reaches the Sales Point with the next synchronization.

On touch devices, an article group becomes draggable after a short press. Article groups you have never moved are sorted alphabetically.

Put the article groups you order most often at the top. They then land in the first row of the start page.

Switching to your own order screens

Customize in the preview under Displays turns the auto layout into order screens of your own:

  1. Open Displays in the bessa Manager.

  2. Click Customize in the preview.

  3. The bessa Manager creates the order screens and opens them in the tile editor.

Customize creates:

  • a start page with one tile per article group, linking to its order screen

  • one order screen per article group with its articles, sorted alphabetically, and a Back tile in the top left

  • layouts for Tablet with 6 columns and Smartphone with 3 columns

The article groups keep the same order as in auto mode. Afterwards you design the order screens freely – colors, function tiles, positions – as described under Arrange Articles.

After Customize, new articles no longer appear on the Sales Point automatically. You have to place every new article on an order screen yourself – during the article import or under Displays. The bessa Manager points out unplaced articles again. The order of the article groups no longer affects the Sales Point either.

Deleting the last order screen

When you delete the last order screen that holds tiles, the delete dialog points out that the Sales Point then switches to auto mode. The same happens when you remove the last tiles in the tile editor with Delete.

In auto mode, the Sales Point again shows all article groups with all articles – your own design is not restored. Deleted order screens cannot be recovered.

Article import in auto mode

In auto mode, the article import hides the order screen options and instead points out that new articles appear on the Sales Point automatically.

The reason: these options create tiles and would end auto mode as a side effect. The option for new article groups also creates order screens only for the imported article groups – all other article groups would disappear from the Sales Point. The only way out of auto mode is therefore Customize, which takes over all article groups.

FAQ

Why does my Sales Point show the article groups instead of my order screen? No order screen holds a tile – for example because the "Start" order screen is empty or the last order screen was deleted. The Sales Point is therefore in auto mode.

Can I turn auto mode off? Not via a setting. It ends as soon as a tile is on an order screen. The easiest way is Customize.

Why does a new article not appear on the Sales Point? The Sales Point is no longer in auto mode because you have your own order screens. Place the article under Displays.

Why does an article group not appear on the start page? It holds no article that auto mode shows, e.g. only articles of type Inventory. See Which articles appear?

Why does the new order of the article groups change nothing on the Sales Point? The Sales Point has its own order screens, or it runs a version earlier than 6.3. With your own order screens, you set the order in the tile editor.

Why are the order screen options missing in the import? In auto mode, new articles appear on the Sales Point anyway. See Article import in auto mode.
