Article groups allow you to organize your articles in the bessa POS system in a clear and structured way. By grouping articles, you can centrally define shared properties such as tax rates, print groups, and discount options for all associated articles.
Overview
Navigate to Articles → Article Groups in the bessa Manager to open the overview of all created article groups.
The table displays all existing article groups with the following information and actions:
|
Column |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Name |
Name of the article group |
|
Edit |
Opens the edit dialog for the group |
|
Delete |
Removes the article group and all associated articles |
Caution: Deleting an article group will also permanently delete all assigned articles! Make sure to reassign articles to another group beforehand if you want to keep them.
Setting the Order
Article groups can be arranged freely: drag an article group by the drag handle to the left of its name, up or down. The new order is saved automatically and survives a reload. On touch devices, an article group becomes draggable after a short press – a normal tap still opens the editor.
Article groups you have never moved are sorted alphabetically.
The order determines the sequence in which the Sales Point shows the article groups in auto mode, i.e. as long as no order screen of your own is set up.
If you have your own order screens, the order of the article groups changes nothing on the Sales Point – the arrangement under Displays applies there.

Tip: Properties such as the print group can also be overridden at the article level. The group-level setting serves as the default value for all new articles.
The article group's tax rate applies to all of its articles and cannot be overridden on the article. The only exception is Germany: there, an article can have a deviating tax rate in a pricing level. If articles in Austria need a different tax rate, assign them to a separate article group.
Import and Export Articles
The Manage articles button imports and exports articles as a CSV file. The article group is given in the Artikelgruppe column: the import creates a group that does not exist yet and takes the tax rate from the file.
All lines of an article group must have the same tax rate in the import file, and it must match the tax rate of the existing article group. Only in Germany may an import into a pricing level contain a deviating tax rate.
Details are described in Importing and Exporting Articles.
