Course Groups

Course groups (also known as menu courses or meal courses) control the sequence in which dishes are sent to the kitchen. This ensures that appetizers, main courses, and desserts are prepared and served at the right time.

Overview

Course groups enable structured kitchen organization: items can be assigned to a specific course when taking orders, so the kitchen knows exactly when to prepare each dish. This is particularly important for restaurants with multi-course menus or à la carte service.

Key characteristics:

  • Course groups apply company-wide across all locations

  • There is no limit to the number of course groups

  • The order can be adjusted at any time via drag & drop

  • The course list is initially empty for new companies

Creating a New Course Group

  1. Click the New Course button (+ icon)

  2. In the "Create Course" dialog, enter the Name

  3. Confirm with Save

Typical examples of course groups:

  • Appetizer

  • Intermediate course

  • Main course

  • Dessert

  • Beverages

  • Digestif

Tip: Name your courses so they are clearly understandable for your service and kitchen staff. Short, concise names like "Appetizer" or "Main Course" make work easier during busy service periods.

Editing a Course Group

  1. Click the Edit icon (pencil icon) in the row of the desired course

  2. Change the name in the input field

  3. Confirm with Save or cancel with Cancel

Changing the Order

The order of course groups determines the sequence in which dishes are sent to the kitchen.

  1. Move the mouse pointer to the drag handle (two-line icon) to the left of the course

  2. Hold down the mouse button

  3. Drag the course to the desired position

  4. Release the mouse button

The new order is saved automatically.

Deleting a Course Group

  1. Click the Delete icon (trash icon) in the row of the course

  2. Confirm the deletion

Warning: If you delete a course group that is already assigned to article groups, those article groups will lose their course assignment. The article groups themselves remain intact but may need to be assigned to a different course.

Assigning Course Groups to Article Groups

After creating your course groups, you can assign them to article groups:

  1. Navigate to Articles > Article Groups

  2. Create or edit an article group

  3. Select the desired course in the Course field

For more information, see Article Groups.

Integration with Order Monitor / Kitchen Display System (KDS)

If you use a Order Monitor / Kitchen Display System (KDS), orders are displayed according to the course sequence. Kitchen staff can see at a glance which courses need to be prepared next.

For more information, see Order Monitors .
